Petition From Veterans Against Interstate 3
TO:
- The Honorable George W. Bush
- The White House
- Washington, D.C.
Dear Mr. President,
We, the undersigned veterans of United States military service, reservists and active duty military personnel, do hereby petition you to:
- Oppose Interstate 3, currently being studied to link Savannah, GA to Knoxville, TN, via the Southern Appalachian Mountains.
- Block any appropriation for the $50-plus billion of U.S. taxpayer money it would take to construct this road, which proponents want identified as Interstate 3, in honor of the famed 3rd Infantry Division, stationed at Ft. Stewart, Georgia.
- Honor our men and women in military service by using such funds to properly equip and protect U.S. military personnel currently serving in combat conditions in Afghanistan, Iraq and other foreign countries, specifically to provide properly armored vehicles and body armor and such other equipment as the U.S. military requires at time of war.
Interstate 3 is not needed for national security. We feel strongly that using national security as a reason for building an unnecessary interstate through the Southern Appalachian Mountains is a politically motivated dishonor to the 3rd Infantry Division.
Protection of the troops must take priority over all else. Nothing less will suffice.
Sincerely yours,
