Volunteer Positions Currently Available at the Chattooga Conservancy:


Youth Outreach Specialist

We are looking for a volunteer to commit a minimum of three hours a month to help coordinate field trips with local school groups and youth programs.

Responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining a working relationship with existing contacts at area schools as well as pursuing new acquaintances
  • Coordinate with Conservancy staff to schedule field trips
  • Help Conservancy staff prepare for field trips (i.e. making copies, etc.)
  • Be present on the day of the field trip and/or help lead an informational workshop during the field trip

Qualifications include:

  • Excellent phone and social skills
  • Desire and ability to work with children of all ages
  • Upbeat, friendly attitude
  • Minimum three hours a month available to work on this project and must have personal vehicle for transportation to and from Conservancy office

Special Events Assistant/Printed Materials Distributor

The Chattooga Conservancy needs a volunteer to help advertise our special events. We will provide the printed material and a list of places to post. The chief requirement of this position is personal transportation.

Responsibilities include:

  • Post fliers for each special event at the Chattooga Conservancy at local businesses in Clayton, Georgia.
  • Distribute copies of the Chattooga Quarterly to select businesses around Clayton.
  • Assist Conservancy staff with the preparation of bulk mailing materials
  • Assist Conservancy staff with contacting sponsors for donations to silent auctions and other special events

Qualifications include:

  • Excellent phone and social skills
  • Personal transportation
  • Have at least four hours a month available to perform tasks
  • Positive attitude

Stekoa Creek Project Assistant-Office

The Stekoa Creek Water Monitoring Project is an on-going project of the Chattooga Conservancy. This particular posting only involves office work pertaining to the Stekoa Creek Project and a minimum of one hour a week is required. Responsibilities include:

  • Assist Stekoa Creek Water Monitoring Project manager with visuals for presentations and basic data entry.
  • Perform basic administrative tasks pertaining to the Stekoa Creek Monitoring project as assigned by project manager (i.e. making copies, sending faxes, etc.)
  • Updating field volunteers and other organizations via mass email

Qualifications include:

  • Basic computer and typing skills
  • Primitive knowledge of Microsoft applications including Word and Excel.
  • Willingness to learn
  • Exceptional writing skills

Stekoa Creek Water Monitoring Project Assistant-Field Work

The Chattooga Conservancy needs a volunteer to commit to helping the Stekoa Creek Water Monitoring Manager collect water samples at least one Tuesday morning each month. All equipment, training and protective gear is provided and samples are collected in the downtown Clayton area.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assist the Stekoa Creek Project manager with the collection of water samples in sanitary bottles and in performing basic field tests
  • Record data in field book

Qualifications include:

  • Personal vehicle/transportation to Conservancy office. Transportation to and from sample sites is provided.
  • Desire and ability to learn proper sampling technique and protocol
  • Good writing skills
  • Punctuality
